Gypsy Trip Report

uh, where to begin?  it's been a heck of a long time since I've been on here, but I think I'll update this since it feeds to my facebook.  GYPSY TRIP WAZ AWESOME!  sooo many memories... although right now only some come to mind.  The weather was warm in Florida the whole time, except for Friday because it rained half-hazardly throughout the day.  I think that through Gypsy trip, my relationships with the people there grew, which is definitely a good thing.  The church we stayed at in Deerfield may have been the best part of the trip; however, I slept under the table the first couple of nights in one of the rooms (why I did it, I don't know, I thought it would be comfortable).  The third night, I slept on the balcony with Kyle, that adjoined the room.  It was so nice.  It was a little breezy but not unbearable.  The first couple of days I got burned the worst.. on my neck and on my back.  I felt horrible on the second night because of my neck burn that I didn't do much that night.  I sort of alienated myself from the group with Kyle, because he got burned the worst on this trip, particularly on his arms an nose.  I was considered an excellent tanner because I'm pretty much black right now.  I had fast food the whole week, which wasn't really that bad.  There was this one restaurant that me, Kevin Friske, Kyle Skarstein, and a bunch of ladies went to that was a "rip to the off" (Heather would understand the part in quotations).  It was a lot of fun to play knockout at the church in Deerfield (even though I'm a terrible shooter, and ended up breaking open my toe in one round).  How could I remember the night at the church where Jessica, Heather, and Kelly salted my whole dinner, including my water, and I didn't end up with a filled stomach.  And during the stay at the church in Deerfield, some bozo stole my ipod headphones.  Seriously, how low can you go by stealing someone's headphones on a church trip?!  I borrowed various people's headphones over the course of the rest of the trip... I also got beaten up by a water noodle by Kellie Ujedchick at the church's youth group.  It was a pretty humiliating event.   but I guess it could've been worse... I could've crawled up into a fetal position, or I could've ran for cover behind the microphone stand... oh wait, I did both...  Wednesday night, I went out to dinner with Kyle and his family (including the old members), who were also vacationing in Florida at that time.  It was a good dinner, however, I couldn't eat too much because of my filled belly due to the foot long sub I ate at Subway for lunch.  The rest of the church group ate at the Deerfield church and later went to Boomers, this mini golf, video arcade, gokarting place.  Me and Kyle got dropped off there but not before we met "Katie," this girl that his parents met who said was "really sharp."  Kyle felt no attraction when he met her though, hahaha.  I think that he would take her over his Gypsy stalker, though =]  We all messed around at Boomers and I played this shooting game with this little Korean kid.  fun stuff.  I'm missing a lot of things to type about.  I'll probably add them in later.  However, the memory still fresh in my head is Heather's potty problem on the way back home.

I hope everyone's thanksgiving was filling, because that's what it's all about:  getting fat off of turkey and mashed potatoes.  I think I put on a couple pounds  well anyway, I've still had fun for my thanksgiving break even though I DIDN'T HAVE THE FRICKEN WEAK OFF LIKE SOME LOSERS.  I want to see Happy Feet today.  No not want, neeeeed.  It looks so funny.  Last night, we (Mr. and Mrs. Nyquist, my family, Cheryl) went out to eat at Little Europe.  Our waiter always said "excuse me" whenever he got close to us.  When we were getting our soup, he was addressing Mr. Nyquist, who by the way has hearing aids.  The waiter was like "excuse me" and there was no response.  He said "excuse me" a second time, and Mr. Nyquist still kept on talking.  Then the waiter squealed "EXCUSE ME!" really loud.  Okay, when I say squeal, I mean the high pitch tone a pig makes.  This guy, who had this un-high voice, changed that in a couple words.  Everyone, including me tried not to laugh and failed miserably.  My brother, in fact, was laughing the rest of the night just because of that little episode.  So I ordered what my dad ordered because I diddn't feel like talking.  I ended up with this beef goolash soup that had nasty broth.  I also ended up with sour kraut.  No, I don't like sour kraut either.  During the whole course of the meal, I maneuvered my bowl of sour kraut over to my sister's end.  But then she realized and gave it back to me.  However, at the end of the night, I sneakily maneuvered it onto my dad's plate, and that was the end of that.  My breaded pork tenderloin was good, I'll add.  oo and the dumplings.  When we were leaving the restaurant, we heard our waiter singing in a high pitched voice .  Very weird.  I guess that's all I have to say.  I did write a poem the night before Thanksgiving.  When my mom read it, she said it was "different" which always means that it's bad.  That kinda hurt me.  I'll let you guys decide if it's poemworthy or not.

Prayer On Thanksgiving

As we gather around the table

I give thanks for the turkey we’ll eat

I thank you for Aunty Agatha Mable

For cousins Joe and Pete

I thank you for my gracious mother

Who has showered me with love

I thank you for my bratty brother

And my goldfish Bob, who’s there above

I thank you much for Penny

‘Cuz she’s my bestest best friend

Thank you Lord for Uncle Lenny

And my dear old Grampa Ben

I thank you for Mrs. Moss

A true teacher if I ever had one

Thanks for this delicious cranberry sauce

Hold on, Lord, I’m almost done

I end this prayer, I close, and with it

I’m thankful for a sturdy seat

I’m thankful this prayer was over a minute

And without further a do, let’s eat!

Amen.

I guess it's time for a new entry, eh? Well life has been goin on as has been before since my last entry. I don't know where to begin except for this weekend. I got an email from Dave Gruthusen who was asking for guy leaders for their "Work Trek" and I volunteered. Although I had in mind that I was gonna miss the new James Bond movie and possibly not see Happy Feet this weekend, I decided to go anyway. The bus ride up there was alright I guess... I was stuck next to Chris Freeman, who I knew from AWANA. To basically describe him, he is a large amount of energy crammed into a vacuum sealed bottle. The guy was flippin off the walls, asking me random questions and not giving me a single second to myself. Fortunately, he left my seat and I could listen to music in peace. I listened to the new Newsboys cd entitled Go. Great cd. Anyway, we finally got there and I felt the coldness seeping into my skin as we left the bus to get our baggage. I could see stars!!! Quite the contrast to the burbs of Chicago. I got my stuff and ended up with a cabin that me and Ryan Burgeron (pronounced Bursheron) were in charge of. Crazy bunch of kids. There was specifically a whole Asian clan of kids that we had who didn't listen when we said STOP TALKING! This resulted in them running laps outside at midnight and thereabouts with NO SHIRTS ON. That made em shutup .  This of course was after we ate pizza, and Dave gave a Bible time on why we were there and how we were serving God.  Cabin time... I picked a closet-like room, and shut the door and got some shut-eye.  It was cold that night... and we got up at six.  My hands were numb when I rolled out of bed and played carpet ball outside with my kids.  Breakfast didn't come until like nine oclock so I did terrible at carpet ball with my numb, frozen hands.  I sat next to Kelly Ujedchik and Holly Kruit, who I basically hung out for the rest of the day.  They were both leaders.  We had waffles and wipped cream with a lil bit of sausage.. yum... good stuff right there =]  When we finally got raking, it was fine at first but later, it got so exhausting.  At first I was raking leaves into a pile when Dave came up and told me to take my raking group and go split wood.  I unloaded a ton of gargantuan logs and used a wood spear to break them into fourths.  It didn't last too long because there was another leader and I wasn't needed there.  So then I went back down and raked leaves into a tarp and Dave Gruthusen came by on a tractor, tied up the tarp and dragged it to this out of the way place where we piled up all our leaves.  Eventually I was called to go back there and unload the tarps off of the rope when he brought them there.  It was alright at first because I had a lot of kids help.   Lunch was soon after that and I sat next to this other guy (I didn't know that Kelly saved me a seat until I found out later).  They served this amazing chicken.... well at least the skin was.  The flesh was a little red... but HEY food is food!  When we finished that, back to work.  This was the part that wore me out.  My kids started losing their cool and went different places, and I had to unload the leaf tarps and turn them over.  It sounds like an easy job, but when you put so many leaves on one tarp, man, they add up!  It started hurting my back like crazy.  The guy I sat next to at lunch took over my job (well actually, I just left my post and went back to raking!).  I started working with another guy's group of kids and this one guy got in a heated conversation with me about the environment  I was like "Screw the environment!"  and he was all like you hate God's creation?!?!  It was total chaos from then on.  Then there was this whole rumor a bunch of little girls started that I had a crush on Kelly.  Of course, that wasn't true, and it would be kind of odd for me to go out with a senior lol.  I took a break for myself at about three oclock because my back was complaining.  I went and made myself some tea.  I went back out and not five minutes later, everyone got a break, so I went back inside.  Theoretically, we were done, but since we took more time for our break than what was desired, we worked till four thirty.  No one was particularly happy.  But that's alright, because I got little kids and Kelly to laugh histarically.  The last tarps were huge and completely covered with leaves and we had to have five big guys to help haul it to the place.  Man, those were some heavy tarps ^.^  Then there was freetime, and I basically spent it watching the white kids (Kelly and a kid named Rebecca) go against my Asian crew.  When dinner finally came around, we had mac and cheese.  We had to eat quick though, because we were loading up on the bus.  Kelly saved me a seat and then came the ride home.  For part of the way I slept on Kelly's shoulder hahahahaha.  I was surprised she didn't mind... in fact, if I hadn't gotten up, she probably wouldn't have stopped me.  We got home at like seven thirtyish and I got a ride home with Dave G.  I was so exhausted that I went to bed.  I woke up and went to second service today, which was OK because Tao was talking and I don't particularly like his sermons (he's a nice guy though).  Flash forward to tonight which was GLADIATOR CHALLENGE!  It wasn't as good as last year or years previous, but it was still a blast.  John, Curtis, Kyle, and I went into the obstacle course and were beating each other to a bloody pulp... er somethin of that nature.  When Kyle was on top of the slide, we pulled down his shorts so his boxers were VERY visible and we made sure that it was ALL on tape!  Hahahaha.  John and I took the jousting sticks at one point and ran into the oversized boxing match and attacked everyone.  The bungee run was great.  It was cool to see my old peeps from CLA: Monica, Paula, Kristen, and Lexi.  That mini ice cube fight in Fellowship Hall was so fun.  And I've written alot and still have AP to do; but, I'll do it during lunch at school tomorrow.  For the CLAers, no school for the entire week!  For everyone else in reality, we get out early on Wednesday!  Good nite everyone and have a Happy Thanksgiving.

it was obviously wrong to post about Monica's problem on me xanga, partly because it was a rumor, a false one, and partly because it got a boatload of people mad at me.  I am sorry.  Other than the above reasons, I have nothing else to apologize for, so, putting that aside, I want to pompously talk about my life (after all, this is my xanga).  So I missed Kalahari Blast because I went to the doctor and the doc said I have bronchitus (which is basically a lung infection).  I'm told that it will take some weeks to fully cough everything out of my lungs  BUT I certainly am feeling better so maybe it will be shorter than that   so.. three day weekend... my brother's birthday was yesterday!  Finally, he is a terrible teen.  Well, he was terrible before yesterday, but yesterday it became "official."  I still haven't finished all my homework for the weekend, so I'm gonna start... erm.. I mean... work.. nah... FINISH my homework.  As a closer, let me just say that my poet's block has been broken.. and here is a poem fresh off the griddle.

Shot Shocked

Please don’t fight

And try not to flinch

It’s gonna be alright

It’ll only be a pinch

It won’t be in there long

I’ll make sure it’s curt

Forgive me if I’m wrong

But it won’t really hurt

A little sting, nothing more

A little clawing at your skin

If only epidermis had doors

It’s easier goin out than in

Here’s a bandaid for your arm

It’ll stop the blood flow

Dear child, don’t be so alarmed

I finished five minutes ago!

it's been a sucky two weeks for me...  my birthday party with my family - good and bad.  It was horrible that I could hardly talk and that everyone backed away from me as if I had the disease of the century; my aunt kept on asking what I had and how I felt and all these stupid questions.. I thought your sixteen birthday was supposed to be sweet, no?  I got things I wanted and yet at the same time I didn't get a lot of things that I wanted, mostly cds.  All of the cds on my birthday list seemed to have been shunned by my immediate family.  I don't want to sound complainy because I'm not complaining... it's just... I don't know... birthdays seem to lose their fun every year... summers seem to be shorter... maybe I'm just afraid to grow old...  I miss a lot of things already.  I haven't written a poem in so long.. I hope I haven't lost that ability.... anyway, as of now, my throat is bothering me... it's been bothering me for two weeks, which corresponds to my opening statement.  I've lost my voice on and off and half the time when I can speak you can hardly understand me.  I've missed Son Life two mondays in a row... tonight being that I've had too much homework... yet I'm not even finished because I'm a stupid, lazy slacker.  And on top of this, I heard that my friend Monica is being pressured into having sex with her boyfriend.  gee, isn't the world a fun place to live in as of now...  I've known her for a long time...  I ask that you pray for her as I will... I don't think she will but then again I haven't really hung out with her in a while, as with most people.  Man, I need to get out of the house more.  I guess I could say more but that homework isn't gonna finish itself.  Later.
